We are pleased to sponsor the last home game of the season of our local American Football Team, The Jurassic Coast Raptors. The Raptors are in their inaugural season in the British American Football League. The Raptors play their home games at Dorchester Rugby Club. This Sunday’s game kicks off at 2:30 with free entry and parking for all. Good luck to The Raptors who play the Torbay Trojans.
About The Raptors
Formed late in 2013 as the Bridport Vikings, the team then moved to the more central location of Dorchester to help pull from a wider pool of potential players.
The Coaches had all played at local level in team across the south west and bring with them a passion for the game and many years of experience of both playing and coaching.
The club then changed its name to The Jurassic Coast Raptors following a player ballot. The name reflects the wider catchment area and links better into the catchment area. This also helped with plans to enter the BAFA (British American Football Association) National League.
Following the formation of the first committee and successfully find our new home at Dorchester Rugby Club, solid foundations were set in place to the future of the club. The club soon grew following a number of recruitment events adding both players and coaching staff which allowed us to play our first games in the autumn of 2014 against university opponents.
In 2015 the team entered into the national leagues qualifying process and we had our first ‘associate season’ playing three games. We won two of and lost one against established teams who had been in the league for 20 years and were vying for promotion to the national league.
The team has achieved much since initial inception and we now aim to grow this as we approach the end of our inaugural season.
We have a great relationship with Dorchester Rugby Club and hope to have an elected member on the Rugby Club committee to help cement the relationship and make the club our permanent home.
